CIPD – Center for Innovation and Product Development

Centre for Innovation and Product Development (CIPD), was established in 2016 under the guardianship of KLE Technological University as product innovation, design, and development centre, to support industries in the “Idea to Market” journey. The centre's vision is to foster innovations, business growth, and employment opportunities in rural India, tier II and III cities of India.

The Centre aids to develop capabilities in Product Innovation and Development for students, faculty and start-ups within KLE Technological University.  

The Mission : To be a premium product innovation and development centre in India by 2025 within the academic arena

The following strategic initiatives shall be deployed to achieve our goal:

· Collaboration: With Industry, students, faculty and society to develop innovative product ideas

· Organizational alignment: Academic courses to be aligned to achieve an end goal of product realization. All NPI, Innovation and PDD courses to be aligned towards a common goal. Faculty members from various departments to be in a team which shall work towards the 2020 goal

· Develop eco-system for product innovation and Intellectual Property Management – processes and tools

· Capability Building: Develop Product Innovation, Design and Development curriculum; Training programs and workshops for faculty and industry partners

In the last three years, CIPD has commercialized two products and one system-level innovation. The centre was granted four design patents and has filed one utility patent. There are two products on the anvil to be commercialized by September 2021.

Over the last year, CIPD grew in different areas to further support start-ups and entrepreneurs by establishing a business incubator, design centre and an IP facilitation cell. These endeavours have been supported by the Department of MSME, Government of India. CIPD has been recognized by the Department of MSME as a “Design Centre” specifically to support MSMEs in this region. Five start-ups shall be incubated with the KLE Tech - MSME business incubator. \
